The non-detectable transferable chemicals are the most widely used today as they eliminate all white ant types and their colonies. The first non-repellant chemical was Premise. It has the active Imidacloprid is one of the first non-detectable transferable chemicals and is still used today. The most common one today is Termidor. Termidor is so confident in their product they offer a product warranty. Termidor hasn’t had a product failure in over 15 years.

How Long Do Termite Barriers Last?
Many years ago, chemical barriers lasted up to 12 years. These chemicals had a much longer residual life, but they caused a lot of environmental damage and were extremely harmful to us and all wildlife. So a safer alternative had to be found.

How Are Chemical Barriers Installed For Termite Protection?
The first step is to dig a trench around the building usually 150mm wide and 50mm below the top of the footing of the house. The trench is filled with a liquid termiticide into the soil. Then the trench is then backfilled then soaked again. It creates a continuous treated soil zone called a chemical termite barrier.

Concrete Areas.
The second step drill holes in concrete areas. The drill holes must be 150mm out from the wall and no more than 300mm apart. Most chemicals state no more than 200mm. You can do spacings up to 450mm with the new Termidor H E . The technician pumps up to 3 liters of the termiticide into the soil through the holes. You must do this under pressure to allow the chemical to spread evenly.
Even houses with concrete, brick, timber, or steel stumps set off the ground with ant caps need termite protection. You treat the subfloor area around the piers and walls by trenching and treating. If the subfloor is too low you have to blanket spray the area.

Another method is a reticulation system. It replenishes the soil with the termiticide through a pipe similar to a soak hose.
You can also install a termite reticulation system around your home or building. This makes future replenishment simple we just hook up and pump the chemical in. also, it is a lot cheaper the next time it needs renewal.
New legislation for slab on ground homes with a liquid chemical barrier system . Since 2017, they may also require a reticulation system. The code states that Chemical termite protection must be replenishable.
