The chemicals have a chemical life expectancy, generally 8 years. Also, it protects your home from the 2 major White ant species in southeast QLD.

A chemical barrier can stop termites from entering your home.

What Is A Termite Chemical Barrier?

A termite chemical barrier is a chemical perimeter system for around your home or building to stop termites from entering your home or building.

What Chemicals Do Termite installers Use

There are two types of chemicals used in termite barriers. Repellant and nondetectable transferable chemicals. The repellant such as Bifenthrin was used extensively as an alternative to the old chemicals until science formulated non-detectable transferable chemicals. The non-detectable transferable chemicals are the most widely used today as they eliminate all white ant types and their colonies. The first non-repellant chemical was Premise. It has the active Imidacloprid is one of the first non-detectable transferable chemicals and is still used today. The most common one today is Termidor. Termidor is so confident in their product they offer a product warranty. Termidor hasn’t had a product failure in over 15 years.

How Effective.

A  chemical protection barrier that transfers and destroys rather than repels is a better solution. It gets rid of the termites and their colony that is destroying your home rather than repelling them. The Transferable chemical is Very effective.

You should consider a chemical termite barrier.

Physical Termite Barriers with a chemical barrier can assist in creating a complete management approach to termite protection. If you think you are safe because you have a physical barrier

How Long Do Termite Barriers Last?

Many years ago, chemical barriers lasted up to 12 years. These chemicals had a much longer residual life, but they caused a lot of environmental damage and were extremely harmful to us and all wildlife. So a safer alternative had to be found.

Today’s Perimeter chemical termite management systems will last up to eight years.

A non-detectable transferable treatment, Not only do they ingest the chemical, but it also covers them and they take it back to the nest. As they come in contact with other termites, it spreads throughout the colony. It kills all termite types, workers, queens, and the soldiers.

Treating the nest is essential

How Are Chemical Barriers Installed For Termite Protection?

The first step is to dig a trench around the building usually 150mm wide and 50mm below the top of the footing of the house. The trench is filled with a liquid termiticide into the soil. Then the trench is then backfilled then soaked again. It creates a continuous treated soil zone called a chemical termite barrier.

Watch the video it shows how the treatment is done.

Concrete Areas.

The second step drill holes in concrete areas. The drill holes must be 150mm out from the wall and no more than 300mm apart. Most chemicals state no more than 200mm. You can do spacings up to 450mm with the new Termidor H E . The technician pumps up to 3 liters of the termiticide into the soil through the holes. You must do this under pressure to allow the chemical to spread evenly.

Drill and injecting

Even houses with concrete, brick, timber, or steel stumps set off the ground with ant caps need termite protection. You treat the subfloor area around the piers and walls by trenching and treating. If the subfloor is too low you have to blanket spray the area.

Reticulation.

Another method is a reticulation system. It replenishes the soil with the termiticide through a pipe similar to a soak hose.

The installation of reticulation pipe and filling points

You can also install a termite reticulation system around your home or building. This makes future replenishment simple we just hook up and pump the chemical in. also, it is a lot cheaper the next time it needs renewal.

New legislation for slab on ground homes with a liquid chemical barrier system . Since 2017, they may also require a reticulation system. The code states that Chemical termite protection must be replenishable.

Termite chemical barrier cost

The cost depends on the size of your home and what chemical you choose, a full termite management system treatment will cost between $1,500 to $5,000+. Before any treatment, a termite inspection will have to be done. We include the inspection with a termite barrier installation.

The termite chemical barrier cost is far less than fixing termite damage in your home if they get in. Before you install your barrier and if you have termites inside the home they will have to be treated and we will include this in the barrier price. A localized treatment on its own Start around $250.00.

A full termite chemical barrier cost protects your home or building for up to 8 years. So divide these costs over 8 years and it is actually very cheap to protect your home from damaging termites.

The only extra cost you should factor in is an annual inspection to keep your warranty.

Not doing anything about it is worse. Insurance doesn’t cover termite damage. So, the cost of a chemical termite barrier is worth it to protect your investment.

There are cheaper chemicals, such as those that use a repellent termiticide. But repelling termites doesn’t solve the problem. it only kills termites that come in contact with the barrier. Termites will test the barrier until they find an opening in the barrier. Generally, you will only save a few hundred dollars by using a repellant. You also will have to renew the barrier more regularly in years to come.

So Cheaper potentially will cost you more.

The New Technology Chemicals.

In fact, you can only use chemicals registered on the Australian Pesticide Register. Registered chemicals must pass performance and strict safety requirements. So once installed you will have no safety issues.

While today’s White ant pesticides don’t last as long. They are actually far more effective in controlling termites. Like Termidor, it uses a non-detectable technology and it has a unique transfer effect. With the transfer effect, this allows us to destroy termite colonies. It is effective in controlling all termite types. They are also safe for the environment when used properly. There are strict guidelines on how these must be used. They are also safe for your children, pets, plants, and wildlife. So are they safe? Yes

The Old chemicals.

Organochlorines and Organophosphates were the first used as liquid termiticides. The names you might know are HEPTACHLOR, DIELDRIN, Chlorpyrifos. These are probably the most common. These chemicals are slow to break down and are toxic to humans and the environment. Public concern and scientific research led to the phasing out of these chemicals from the mid-1990s. Also, These chemicals were rather nasty and had a very strong odor. The chemicals caused all sorts of health and environmental issues. These chemicals were definitely not safe. The chemicals would actually accumulate in animals and humans. To answer the question no they were not safe.

Another one was Arsenic trioxide. It was a means of treating live termites in their workings in an attempt to eradicate the colony. This stuff as we all know is definitely not safe.
